Hair transplant is a technique where a bald person can get natural hair back.
It is the most common cosmetic procedure across the world, now with the increased demand density and coverage of higher grade of baldness.It is done under local anesthesia, during the entire process patient remains awake, watches movies and take lunch and tea breaks.
Hair follicles from the permanent donor area are taken and implanted in the recipient area. Donor area commonly is back side of the head but extra scalp donor area like beard, chest and other parts are also used.Hair grows after four months of implantation.
In the last few years, FUE Hair Transplant is the method of choice for most of the patients, Reason is very obvious-
FUE means follicle unit extraction. It is the technique of removal of hair follicles from donor area by a punch. The punch is a circular knife which is mounted on a motor-driven handpiece or sometimes it can be mounted on a manual instrument. FUE means follicular Unit Extraction, now a day it is called Follicular Unit Excision.
This is one of the techniques of hair transplant. In this follicles are extracted using a circular knife called a punch. This punch may be of size 0.7 mm to 1.0 mm, and also they can be sharp or dull. These circular punch are mounted on an either handheld device, called manual system or they can be mounted on a motorised devised. If motorised device is used the speed of extraction is fast.
There is no linear long scar and no suturing is done after excision of follicles as it comes during FUT. but there are multiple small rounded scars which are hidden under the hair. In most cases, they are not visible.
The procedure is done by a surgeon not by assistants. There are few centers where the excision of grafts are done by assistants, which is not ethical.
There are mainly two stages of hair transplant.
This is done in two stages.
First is scoring of grafts – using punch surgeon cut off hair follicles from surrounding, then assistant just pulls out those hair follicles. Then these grafts are kept in graft holding solution. At The Hair World Clinic, the grafts are kept in platelet-rich plasma to provide biological atmosphere and nutrition to grafts when they are kept outside the body. There is another method in which grafts are implanted immediately, which is called simultaneous or direct hair implantation.
In this, the extracted grafts are implanted in slits. There are two types of implantation. One is direct hair follicles implantation using stick and place technique or using implanters. Second is by making slits, the slits are made by the surgeon. Usually, the slits are made even before doing follicles extraction. The trained assistant’s implant hair follicles in slits.
There are many advantages of FUE. The most important advantage is we can extract hair follicles from extra scalp source ie from other areas of the body.
The biggest advantage of FUE Hair Transplant is we can harvest hair roots from the area other than the scalp. When follicles are taken from another part of the body other than the scalp it is called “Body Hair Transplant” (BHT).

The common question to your mind may come that the hair from beard and chest are short and different. The answer to this is that this hair when we put on the head when they grow longer but thickness remains the same. Usually, beard hair is thicker and curly. So thicker and curly hair gives better volume coverage as compared to scalp hair but as they are little different than scalp hair, we put them on the backside of the head and also mix them with scalp hair.
